Human Rights – Northwest Territories

In the Northwest Territories there is explicit protection for gender identity within the Human Rights Act, Part 2, subsection 5(1).

Gender identity is not defined within the Act. However, the Northwest Territories Human Rights Commission states that gender identity “includes transgendered persons and those who identify with or live as a gender that is different from their biological sex.” It is important to note that these are guidelines and not legal definitions.

If you feel you have been discriminated against under one of the protected grounds, you can file a complaint with the Northwest Territories Human Rights Commission.
