The Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms of Québec explicitly includes protections for ‘gender identity or expression’ under Part I, Chapter I.1, s 10. The Charter does not define gender identity or expression, nor does the Comission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse. The Commission merely states that you cannot be treated differently because of your gender identity or gender expression.
To learn more about the ways in which the Charter protects you, please visit this page or view this document from the Commission.
If you feel you have been discriminated against, harassed, or exploited under a protected ground, you may file a complaint. For more information about the complaint process, please click here.
